Coordinator Of Recreation and Wellness (Fall 2022)
Claremont McKenna College and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Athletics Dept. look to support student success and create a supportive environment for recreation, health, and wellness through holistic wellness opportunities within Roberts Pavilion and throughout our college’s campuses. Working in conjunction with the current Roberts CMS Recreation staff as well as the CMC Office of Student Affairs Academic Success Unit, the Coordinator of Recreation and Wellness will bridge the gap between CMS Athletics, CMC and the Health Coordinators at the Sallie Tiernan Field House at Scripps College and the offices of HEO, MCAPS and Student Health at the Claremont Colleges Services, by providing programming, education, and events centered on physical activity, sleep habits, stress management, alcohol and substance use, nutrition, body image and mental health, increasing knowledge and awareness of mental and physical wellness, healthy lifestyle choices and their importance to personal productivity and happiness.
PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the in collaboration with Tthe Director of Recreation and Engagement, the Coordinator of Student Recreation and Wellness is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating needs-based health education programs focusing on primary prevention, risk reduction and intervention programs for the CMS communityClaremont Mckenna College, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps students, faculty, and staff.

Education: Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation / Health Education/Health Promotion, Movement and Sport Science, or other area related to defined responsibilities and experience in a capacity related to the duties to be performed.
Experience: At least 2 years of work within campus recreation at any level. Candidates must possess and maintain the ability to communicate and interact in an appropriate and professional manner with CMS Athletics staff, students, coaches, administrators, and staff of the institution and community.
HOURS: The regular hours for this position are 40. Hours may vary due to needs of the College or department.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. This is an 11-month position.
CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS: This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.
This position reports to The Director of Recreation and Engagement for CMS Athletics.

Health & Wellness
- Support the Director of Recreation with coordination of on and off campus CMS Recreation events such as the Annual CMS Health and Wellness Fair, the 5C5K, etc. This includes but is not limited to securing on and off-campus vendors, marketing and overall promotion of the event.
- Support the development, implementation and management of marketing of CMS Recreation health and wellness programs, workshops and initiatives including print, web and social media
- Plan, promote and implement wellness education, outreach, workshops and engagement opportunities, targeted interventions and evidence-based assessments for the CMS community
- Development of educational program areas include: alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention; mental health, suicide awareness, nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, including contraception and STI and HIV prevention; violence and sexual violence prevention; stress management; women's health; men's health; and other specific and general health topics.
- Implement culturally sensitive health and wellness education programs and individual consultations based on students' needs, interests, developmental stages and learning styles.
- Collaborate with 5 college departments to implement health promotion initiatives, work closely with the Health Education Outreach, Student Advocates for Sexual Violence, and the Orientation Planning Committee.
- Instruct health education and wellness classes and workshops to facilitate participation and understanding of healthy lifestyle choices.
- Implement a social norming campaign around alcohol, tobacco and other drugs to address education, prevention, and intervention strategies.
- Support the Academic Success Unit in developing, implementing, and evaluating a health and wellness student peer leadership program to address education, prevention, and intervention strategies.
- Support the Academic Success Unit in implementing and maintaining an Alcohol Education program and develop campus-wide Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs (ATOD) programming and education including Alcohol Edu, Haven, E-Checkup and Basics.
- Support the Academic Success Unit to implement and train students, faculty and staff around mental health initiatives including Campus Connect and QPR.
- Support the Academic Success Unit to implement JED Campus Program Initiatives
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety, health and wellness training workshops for Roberts Pavilion during Orientation
· Develop, implement and manage marketing health and wellness programs, workshops and initiatives including print, web and social media
- Perform other duties as assigned
Recreation Operations
- Assist in the supervision and management of all facilities and programsRoberts Pavilion and CMS Recreation staff within Roberts Pavilion including but not limited to: fitness programs, physical education classes, open recreation including the supervision of student and part-time staffFitness Instructors, Facility and Intramural staff
- Collaborate with the Coordinator of Recreational Facilities on the scheduling of campus requests and events through the Fusion Portal and or EMS
- Make supervisory level decisions in emergency situations and contact emergency personnel as needed
Special Initiatives
- Serve on campus-wide initiatives that develop, promote and implement campaigns that support health and wellness, such as:
- JED Campus Committee for CMC
- 5C Mental Health Advocates Committee
- CMS Student-Athlete Advisory Committee - Health and Wellness Committee
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Understanding of and commitment to the CMC and CMS mission of building community and promoting lifelong healthy habits
- Knowledge of current community health promotion theories, methods, strategies, and tactics.
- Experience motivating students to take leadership roles in health promotion activities.
